THE STREET

In the tradition of architectural brilliance - The Lotos Club at 5 East 66th Street by Richard Howland Hunt for Margaret Vanderbilt, and one New York's grandest facades at 45 East 66th Street by Harde and Short - stands The Arthur Sachs Mansion at 58 East 66th Street, a modern incarnation of the exquisite features exemplified in these remarkable buildings of the past.

THE MANSION

With a superb limestone facade in the Beaux-Arts style, this mansion was originally erected for Alice and Arthur Sachs in 1908-9 by Buchman and Fox, the architects of the Gilded Age beauty at 5 East 73rd Street and enduring monuments such as Saks and Altmans. It faces 57 East 66th Street, the long-time residence of Andy Warhol from 1974 to 1987, designated a landmark in 1998 in celebration of Warhol's seventieth birthday.

TURN-KEY RESIDENCE COMPLETION

Designed by architect Henry Jessup, the mansion will be totally completed by June 30, 2015. For an update on current project status and the possibility of customization, please email immediately. FLOOR Plans are available.

THE MODERN RESIDENCE

From the ground floor entry hall of this approximately 9600sf townhouse, there are direct views to the stair hall, kitchen, and terrace beyond, creating an immediate green sightline. A second entry west of the front door leads to a mudroom, vestibule, and elevator. The center foyer includes a fireplace and windowed powder room. The center stair is positioned opposite the elevator. A grand chef's kitchen in the rear of the garden level has top-of-the-line appliances by Dacor, a service stair up to the butler's pantry, informal dining space, and double doors leading to a planted southern garden featuring 40 square feet of glass block terrace looking down into the pool.

On the parlor floor, high ceilings and abundant light augment a superior entertaining level. There is a powder room beside the elevator on the center landing and fireplaces both in the front living room and rear formal dining room which also features a south-facing terrace overlooking the garden. In the extension, the butler's pantry and rear stair lead down to the main kitchen.

The third floor master bedroom suite includes a library with fireplace and three tall north-facing windows as well as built-in bookcases and a rear master bedroom with two walk-in closets, fireplace, and palatial master bathroom with additional closets, soaking tub, twin sinks, stall shower, and a bowed western window.

Configured as two bedrooms each with a walk-in closet and a full bath, the fourth floor also includes a laundry room off the center landing while the rear bedroom enjoys a larger full bath and walk-in closet occupying the extension which includes a bowed western window.

On the fifth floor, two additional bedrooms each with en-suite baths and walk-in closets complete this five bedroom townhouse, with the rear bedroom enjoying a south-facing terrace on top of the extension. A full stair leads to the roof garden where there is an outdoor sink and storage.

The cellar level of this townhouse can be accessed through the main stair or elevator. While housing the mechanicals and replete with storage, the most dynamic feature of the cellar level is the 27-foot lap pool and adjoining recreation room.
